Project Overview
Morgan Civil and Structural were appointed to provide Structural Design Services for 5 new high end, family homes on the Northern edge of the World Heritage City of Bath, adjoining Green Belt and the Cotswold area of outstanding natural beauty.
The buildings were constructed into the side of a hill, resulting in stepped units. With complex geology and resulting slip plain, a piled stepped raft foundation was adopted.
Due to the need for insulated, waterproofed retaining walls to accommodate the ground floor undercroft, the clients preferred method of construction was Insulated Concrete Formwork (ICF) with a crack self healing admixture. This construction method was used throughout resulting in some challenging designs and detailing.
