Project Overview
St Dunstan’s House is a grade II listed building dating back to C1800, set in the heart of historic Glastonbury and is currently home to the towns Tourist Information Centre.
St Dunston House has been chosen to be included in the multi-million-pound regeneration programme taking place in Glastonbury Town. Under the proposals, an atrium will be constructed to link the building with the town hall, forming a new health and wellbeing hub for the town. Internal renovations will to allow different groups to make the best use of the space.
The existing building will also be extended, further supporting the future preservation of listed buildings within the town.

Morgan Civil and Structural have provided civil and structural engineering design services from planning and outline defect investigation works through to completion. The project consists of renovation to the existing building as well as the completion of a new build infill extension. Challenges included ensuring our all remediation was sympathetic to the behaviour of the fabric and simple.
The interface between old and new was a good demonstration of this principle.
A key constraint of the project was the potential presence of shallow medieval remains and low allowable ground bearing pressure which necessitated a shallow grillage footing solution. The new build infill features a series of bespoke glulam sway frames carefully detailed to minimise the presence of connections.
