Project Overview

Following on from Castle School Academy’s successful CIF bid, this £1.4 million project comprises Kitchen and Dining Extension with internal refurbishment of existing areas to address capacity and suitability issues. The new development provides Castle School with upgraded, contemporary kitchen facilities, a dedicated dining hall and much needed additional toilet facilities. In addition to this, internal alterations have improved circulation flow, staff support spaces and security and safeguarding for students.

Morgan Civil and Structural were appointed by the Client Future for Somerset in this traditionally procured project to provide civil and structural engineering services. There were significant challenges to start with. There was a 33kv cable running along the site which was rerouted.

There is a 600mm Dia public sewer running along the site. Early on in the project, Morgan Civil and Structural did foundation bridge over beams to avoid surcharging the public sewer and got the approval of the utility company for a build over licence. The project was to be constructed on a very restricted site within a live school environment.

We worked closely with the Architect and Services Engineer to provide efficient structural solution meeting the Client’s brief.
